We’re starting a rhubarb revolution in Dunoon. It's easy to grow and easy to cook. And rhubarb loves our local climate. To join our flourishing rhubarb community, it’s really simple. You can grow rhubarb, add your rhubarb patch to our Green Map and come along to our micro Rhubarb Festival.
Get involved and let’s make Dunoon known for its rhubarb!

Rhubarb is the key ingredient in our signature Dunoon Goes POP Rhubob pop syrup, inspired by local legend Robert ‘Bob’ Dryden, architect of Dunoon Burgh Hall.
Not only does rhubarb make delicious soft drinks, but you can also make scrumptious puddings and tasty preserves.
It’s a hardy plant that is easy to grow for beginner gardeners, as well as being a favourite with expert growers. Rhubarb is a popular plant to grow and cook with children since it is simple to grow and versatile to cook with.
"Could we come together as a town to grow more of this tasty crop and make Dunoon known for it? We think so.”

From primary schools and nurseries, to care homes and small businesses, in 2023 and 2024, we gave rhubarb plants to over 20 new growers in Dunoon. This was part of our Dunoon Goes POP project to make 150 bottles of rhubarb-flavoured pop syrup to celebrate 150 years of Dunoon Burgh Hall. Local people came on board and started growing rhubarb, while others donated a whopping amount of rhubarb stalks to help us make the Rhobob pop syrup.
Hannah Clinch, co-founder of Dunoon Goes POP was encouraged by how many people got involved:
“The appetite for rhubarb growing and our pop syrup was so strong last year that it got us thinking. Local people seem to love rhubarb, and it is an easy-to-grow crop that loves our local climate. So could we come together as a town to grow more of this tasty crop and make Dunoon known for it? We think so.”
We’re calling on people around Dunoon and Cowal to join our rhubarb revolution!
Here are five simple ways that you can get involved:
Grow rhubarb in your garden!
Rhubarb is easy to grow and not too fussy. Give it a large planter or plant it directly into the soil in your garden and you will be harvesting scrumptious rhubarb for many years to come.
We’ve created a simple rhubarb growing guide. Read our guide here.
To make rhubarb more accessible to local people, we have over 60 potted rhubarb plants for sale this spring. By purchasing this Scotland-grown rhubarb, you are supporting a social enterprise and investing in Dunoon Goes POP – our heritage-inspired soft drinks brand that we are slowly growing with our community.
Four different potted varieties are for sale for £15 each:
Victoria: the classic heritage variety known for its big juicy stems.
Stockbridge Arrow: an early-season cropper with long and thick stems.
Glaskin’s Perpetual: variety that is excellent for forcing and has long and tender red stalks.
Everbarber Potstar: extraordinarily productive variety with cherry red stems
Our rhubarb plants are sold for local collection only, available to collect from POP shop on 28 Hillfoot Street, Dunoon, PA23 7DS.
You can also ask a friend or neighbour to split their rhubarb plant for you. Or try growing some from seed!
Add your rhubarb patch to the Dunoon Rhubarb Green Map
Do you already grow rhubarb? Why not add your rhubarb patch to the Dunoon rhubarb Green Map. This helps us to measure and show just how many people around Dunoon and Cowal are growing rhubarb.
